Round 5: Review

11 May 2015 by Wembley Magpies

The Wembley Amateur Football Club had a great weekend in Round 5, recording five wins from six matches.

Colts: Wembley 19-21-135 defeated Hamersley Carine 3-3-21.

Round 5 saw the undefeated Colts kick off Ladies Day 2015 against Hamersley Carine at Henderson Park. A dominant display from the Colts saw them record a whopping 114-point victory over their opponents, a margin that could have been even larger had the side been more accurate in front of goals. After five rounds the undefeated Colts now sit on top of the Drew Banfield Colts ladder and will take on bottom-placed Maddington in Round 6.

Seconds: Wembley 11-6-72 defeated by Hamersley Carine 12-4-76.

2015 has seen the Seconds become fairly accustomed to playing in tight matches with Round 5 being their third game of the season to be decided by one straight kick or less. Despite having more shots on goal than their opponents, the Seconds eventually fell agonisingly short, trailing by just 4 points when the final siren went. Currently fourth on the ladder the Seconds will be looking to bounce back in Round 6 when they take on eighth placed Maddington.

Firsts: Wembley 15-13-103 defeated Hamersley Carine 12-7-79.

The main match of the day at Pat Goodridge reserve for the day saw the Firsts in action against the undefeated Hamersley Carine. Six goals from Seal and three from Newton ensured that the Firsts would go onto record a 24-point victory over their opponents while also bringing their undefeated run to an end.

Fourths: Wembley 10-10-70 defeated Hamersley Carine 0-6-6.

The Fourths were able to extract revenge on their 2014 tormenters and 2014 D2 Reserve premiers Hamersley Carine in Round 5, keeping their opponents to just six behinds for the entire match. Coming off a bye the previous round the Fourths hit the ground running and continued their undefeated start to the season, dismantling their opponents by 64 points. Next week the Fourths will return home to Pat Goodridge to take on third-placed Bullcreek Leeming.

Thirds: Wembley 4-6-30 defeated by Hamersley Carine 5-7-37.

The second match of the day at Carine Open Space saw the Thirds looking to bounce back from their one-point defeat in their last match, a result that they had, had to sit on for a couple of weeks due to a bye in Round 4. Unfortunately for the Thirds they lost their second close game in succession, gaining down by 7 points in a extremely low scoring match given the sunny winter weather. The Thirds will be looking to atone for their loss in Round 6 when they take on sixth-placed Bullcreek Leeming.

Fifths: Wembley defeated Stirling by forfeit.

After working extremely hard throughout the week to lock-down a side for the Fifths second match of the season, the Fifths and coach McDonald were left flat with their opponents not turning up for the match (other than three players) and providing no notice of forfeit prior to the match. The Fifths are set to take on fourth-placed Kingsway in Round 6 and will be looking to register their first ‘true’ victory for the season.
