Round 6: Review

18 May 2015 by Wembley Magpies

The Wembley Amateur Football Club had another successful weekend in Round 6 with the club recording four victories from the five matches played on the day.

The Colts, Seconds and Firsts all travelled to Harmony Fields to take on Maddington in Round 6.

Colts: Wembley 13-10-88 defeated Maddington 2-1-13.

The Colts continued their undefeated start to the season in Round 6 by easily accounting for Maddington by 75 points in the first match of the day in miserable conditions at Harmony Fields. The Colts now sit top of the Drew Banfield Colts ladder and will take on sixth-place Swan Athletic in Round 7.

Seconds: Wembley 13-4-82 defeated Maddington 4-5-29

After a narrow loss in Round 5 the Seconds were looking to get back in the winners circle when they took to the field in the second match of the day at Harmony Fields. The Seconds bounced back in style by convincingly outclassing their opponents, recording a 53 point victory in the process. Round 7 sees the Seconds take on second place Swan Athletic in the second match of the day at Pat Goodridge Reserve.

Firsts: Wembley 7-12-54 defeated Maddington 6-8-44.

In horrendous conditions the league side managed to get the 4 points. Great to see the side be challenged over the last few weeks during the last quarter and the boys have been able to withstand the challenge and kick on for the win. Huge game on the home deck against Swan Athletic this week.

The Thirds and Fourths played host to Bullcreek Leeming in Round 7 in howling conditions down at Pat Goodridge Reserve.

Fourths: Wembley 11-10-76 defeated Bullcreek Leeming 1-6-12.

The Wembley Fourth Grade side continued their promising start to the season, with a resounding 64 point unravelling of Bullcreek-Leeming, in wet conditions at Pat Goodridge. Never challenged, by an undermanned Bullcreek, Wembley lead at every change. Strong contributions came from the captain, Brett Havlin, Simon Ham & Luke Smith. Coach Robbie Biddle was very happy with his charges & sitting undefeated after 6 rounds, has said that it’s time this group really starts believing that we could do something pretty special this year.

Thirds: Wembley 9-7-61 defeated by Bullcreek Leeming 10-5-65.

The main match of the day at Pat Goodridge saw the Thirds looking to break a two-match loosing streak when they took on Bullcreek Leeming. Despite leading 60 points to 26 at three-quarter time, the final result was unfortunately not the one that the Thirds were looking for, suffering their third consecutive loss by under 10 points. Next week sees the Thirds and Fourths travel to Kingsley in what should be two tough matches.

Fifths: Game abandoned without play.
